Education Background
Fan Shuli, a scientist of Cotton Genetics and Breeding, received her BS degree and MS degree in Agronomy (1993,1996) from the Northwest A&F University, Shanxi province, China, and gained her PhD in Crop Genetics and Breeding (2004) from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing, China.
Research Area
She is executive leader of the Short-season Cotton genetic improvement Program in Institute of Cotton Research of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ICR, CAAS). She is also the director of the Department of Genetics and Breeding, chief investigator of 863 project "Selection and Utilization of hybrid Cotton" from Ministry of Science and Technology , and chief assistant of research team in Early maturing Cotton Genetics and Breeding of CAAS.
She is responsible for cotton early breeding, focusing on improving early maturity, yield and fiber quality in short-season cotton with molecular marker and genetic engineering techniques, and aimed to select early and extra-early maturity cotton cultivars for planting after the harvest of wheat. She developed 12 cotton varieties, CCRI24, CCRI36, CCRI45, CCRI50, CCRI74 and CCRI85 etc. with high yield, early mature and resistance to disease, and constructed the molecular linkage map and QTL mapping for earliness in short-season cotton. She won the first prize (2006) and the second prize (2004) for Scientific and Technology progress awarded by the government of Henan province and the Chinese government, respectively.
