At the invitation of the chairman of the organizing committee professor Marc van Montagu, the four people that academician Yu Shu-xun and Du Xiong-ming, Yuan You-lu, Wu-wei Ye researchers took part in the 16^th European Congress on biotechnology (ECB16) in Edinburgh on July 13 ~ 19, 2014. During the conference, academician Yu Shu-xun widely communicated with delegates from more than 50 countries and regions all over the world on the main progress of cotton biotechnology. Yuan You-lu, Wu-wei Ye and Du Xiong-ming researchers respectively made conference reports, which are "Molecular marker-assisted selection and pyramiding effect of major QTLs for cotton fiber strength", "Gene isolation and its identification of salinity stress on G.hirsutum L." and " Transcriptome and small RNA sequencing analysis of a new dwarf mutant in Gossypium hirsutum L.". They Introduced the latest research progress of the molecular markers of cotton fiber quality, cotton salt tolerance gene identification, cotton dwarf mutants, which caused a wide range of influence.
